Welcome to July! Depending on where you are in the world, these are the hot, lazy days of summer. Why not bring a book by the poolside or into the air conditioning and escape into the pages?
This month's theme is creatures and paranormal, in honor of the July 1 release of Underdogs #6, Dog Biscuits, by Geonn Cannon.
I don't know about you, but I love a good urban fantasy, imagining unusual beings walking around among us and living side by side with us. As much as I love being taken to new worlds, I also like when those worlds come to us and mix with our reality. This can be a great way for authors and readers alike to explore complex issues, peeling back the layers and digging underneath our fears and prejudices. When it's done well, stories like that can help lead to social change.
Other times, fantasy and urban fantasy are pure escapism, a chance to live through the characters and experience what it would be like to possess magic. We all need a break from the grind of reality every now and again.
When you think about supernatural forces, paranormal experiences, creature-features, shape-shifters, and the like, what comes to mind? What are your favorite creatures to read about?
